- Contemporary Norwegian Glass -
For more than 4000 years man has been fascinated by glass. Glass is so versatile and its technical possibilities so great that only the glassworker’s imagination limits how it can be used and shaped. This presentation of contemporary glass art from Norway demonstrates the fascinating technical possibilities that the material offers. The exhibition is presented by nine distinguished Norwegian artists, some of whom work for the big glass manufacturing companies, while others work in independent studio workshops. The artists keep abreast with international trends in glass art, while maintaining their own characteristic style, allowing us to perceive clearly the individuality of each artist.

Norwegian contemporary ceramics art holds a high quality and receives growing international recognition. Several of the eighteen Norwegian ceramics artists presented in the exhibition have made their mark internationally. The approach of the ceramics exhibition is different from the usual way Norwegian ceramics have been presented abroad. This exhibition focuses neither on traditional objects such as plates, pots and vessels, nor on purely artistic categories such as sculptures and pictures, but on figuration. The pieces represent a combination of reality and imagination, as well as reflecting the growing contemporary tendency to blur the distinction between decorative art and fine art.
Some of the participating artists in the exhibition are well-established names, while others are young and upcoming artists who are starting to make their mark both at home and abroad. Using imagination and creativity, they have developed distinctive and individual styles. The artists’ aim is not to simply please, but to give to their pieces the capacity to intrigue – and perhaps also to challenge.
