This year as last year, the Norwegian community gathered at the ambassador’s residence on the 17th of May for the traditional celebration. More than 200 Norwegians were present. The celebration started out with a flag raising ceremony followed by a children’s parade with a marching band, songs and speeches. Lots of food was served, including salmon, kransekake, ice cream and of course, not to forget the traditional 17th of May food – hot dogs! 17th of May this year was a successful but warm experience, with temperature exceeding 35 degrees. A big thanks goes to the organizing committee who did an excellent job making the day a nice celebration away from home.
The next event – the official cocktail reception took place at Renaissance Hotel on 19th of May. Around 400 guests from Malaysia, Norway and a number of other countries came to celebrate the Norwegian Constitution Day. The Danis quartet from the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra played Norwegian music, accompanied by pictures from Norway and Norwegians in national costumes. The guest of honour of the evening was Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, YB Datuk Liew Vui Keong, who together with Norwegian ambassador Arild Braastad held the official toast.
